Community Arts Grants Now Under Review
With the 2013 Community Arts Grant deadline now over, the major work is done for our applicants but just beginning for our panel reviewers. Volunteers appointed to the panel from our three counties participated in an orientation to the review process and the goals of the program and, for the next four or five weeks, will be thoroughly reviewing applications.
The projects on the table for consideration are widely diverse and have exceptional potential to serve the many diverse audiences that constitute our various communities. In the face of tight economic budgets on both national and state levels, the need for arts funding in our communities is perhaps more important than ever. Together the three counties’ request for 2013 funding totals $117,527.
While we have not yet heard from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) as to the amount the Council will be awarded for General Operating, Arts Education and Community Arts regrant programs, we are confident that whatever tax dollars funds earmarked for the arts that we do receive will be put to good local use.
The Community Arts Grants are a program of NYSCA administered by Greene County Council on the Arts for Greene, Columbia and Schoharie Counties. Watch this space for award announcements in the January/February issue of Arts Alive! Just in time to break up those nasty winter doldrums, we’ll share news about exciting programs and events to look forward to in 2013.
