Greene County Council on the Arts announces an awards reception & potluck for our 2012 Community Arts Grants Decentralization (DEC) and County Initiative (CIP) grant recipients. DEC and CIP recipients, panels, and GCCA board members will journey to the Doctorow Center in Hunter on Tuesday, May 22, 5:30 – 7:30 PM, for a notable evening of celebration. The Center is part of the Catskill Mountain Foundation’s multi-arts complex and includes the CMF Keyboard Museum, film screening room, and concert hall.

The Museum features the Steven E. Greenstein Collection, a one-of-a-kind compilation of historic pianos and musical  artifacts. Artistic Director Kenneth Hamrick, a keyboard artist and conductor specializing in Baroque, Classical  and Early Romantic music and performance techniques, will treat reception attendees to a brief, but intriguing, program highlighting the collection.

The County Initiative Program allocates funds from the Greene County Legislature through a competitive review process. Through CIP, $18,000 was awarded to 10 Greene County-based established arts organizations in support of folk arts, exhibitions, concerts, theater events, and other 2012 cultural programming. For information on CIP awards and deadlines, contact Executive Director Kay Stamer at 518-943-3400 or GCCA@greenearts.org.

The Decentralization program is a local regrant program of the State and Local Partnership Program of the New York State Council on the Arts and is administered by GCCA through the Community Arts Grants Fund. Through DEC, $20,000 was earmarked for GreeneCountyarts events that have a strong public benefit and $2,000 for an individual artist grant. Grants were evaluated on a competitive basis and 15 projects awarded. The funds will support programs as diverse as swing dance lessons & performance, classical music, ceramic & stonecarving classes, Animation, sculpture, & local heritage festivals, Civil War themed and community theater and more. The deadline for the next round of DEC awards will be Sept 15 for Project Support grants/October 13 for Individual Artist grants.
