New Twist for GCCA Garden Party: Preview and sale of ‘Postcards from the Trail’

On Saturday Sept. 22, spend a glorious afternoon at the historic Beattie-Powers Place to support your arts council – the Greene County Council on the Arts (GCCA). In addition to all the fun – great food, wine and beer, music, camaraderie – the Thomas Cole National Historic Site will premier an exhibition and sale of “Postcards from the Trail”. This is your chance to see first hand (and buy) artists’ postcard sized landscape paintings and drawings that depict one of the 22 views along the Hudson River School Art Trail. Then Sunday, Sept. 23, everyone is invited to the Cole House community day for another opportunity to view and buy those original works. The Garden Party is your first chance to peruse and purchase “Postcards from the Trail”!

This late summer garden party will again be held at the beautifully restored Beattie-Powers Place overlooking the Hudson River. Located in the historic district of Catskill, the Beattie-Powers Place with its spectacular lawn and garden provides an idyllic setting to experience the ambiance that inspired Thomas Cole and Frederic Church.

The Garden Party will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22. Admission is $25 for members and their guests and $40 for non-members. Each non-member admission includes a one-year individual membership to the GCCA (for new members only). Children under 12 are free. There will be music, a delicious buffet of homemade delicacies crafted by GCCA board members and friends, wine and beer. For wine and beer lovers, a commemorative glass will be available for $10 for unlimited refills.

Great food, music, wine and a gorgeous Hudson River view conspire to make the annual GCCA Garden Party at Beattie Powers Place an event to remember.

Enrico Scull is coordinating the music. We expect to entertain you with Enrico “The Caboose” Scull on guitar, harmonica and foot percussion and special guest, singer and songwriter Besti “Betsi” Krisniski. With two CDs to her credit, she is not to be missed! Plus more to come! This event is family friendly and an affordable way to contribute to the arts programs that make our community so special.

For 37 years, the GCCA has been the hub of the art community in Greene County. We have supported arts organizations and artists and sponsored arts related events for children and seniors alike. In partnership with the Catskill Arts Coalition, we sponsor Masters on Main Street. We maintain two galleries in Catskill, bring numerous cultural events to Greene County, participate in community revitalization projects through the arts and nurture our long tradition as a community that welcomes artists and fosters their work.

At a time when arts programs across the state are threatened and community arts programs in the Hudson Valley are treading water, the GCCA, your local arts council, is determined to continue the programs that serve so many. But we cannot do it without your support.

We invite you to attend this fun event, see old friends and meet new ones. With your support the GCCA can continue the valuable programs and services that have contributed so greatly to the quality of life in Greene County.

The Beattie-Powers Place is at the top of Bridge Street at the intersection of Prospect Avenue in Catskill. The entrance is directly across from the end of Bridge Street.
