GCCA Sprouts Registration Opens May 1

Children learn the beauties of clay as they mold, shape
and roll their creations at a Sprouts summer art workshop.

“Sprouts,” the Greene County Council on the Arts free summer arts program for children ages 3 to 7, is accepting registrations beginning May 1 for its workshops in art & music or theater & dance. Sprouts workshops will be held in the following locations this summer:

Ski Windham, July 7 – 11
Coxsackie Elementary School, July 14 - 18
Cairo, Resurrection Lutheran Church, July 21 - 25
Greenville Middle School, July 28 - August 1
Hunter Mountain Ski Resort (Educational Center Daycare), August 4 – 8
Catskill Community Center, August 11 – August 15 and August 18 – 22

Workshops run from 10—11:45 a.m., with a snack break between sessions. Each 45-minute class is limited to 15 children, allowing teachers and volunteer assistants to provide individual attention. To register, call the Greene County Council on the Arts at 943-3400. GCCA will send a letter confirming your registration. Registration fills quickly, so don’t wait.

“Sprouts” engages professional artists with talent and experience working with children creatively who understand the importance of positive early learning. Children and their parents choose between music and art, or theater and dance and continue with the same two artist/teachers for the entire week. In an environment where there is no “wrong answer” or “wrong way,” a child is encouraged to invent, persevere and enjoy success through experimentation, problem solving and setting reasonable goals.

Our outstanding teenage volunteers serve as role models for the younger children. Often, when “Sprouts” children are too old to attend the program, they ask to be volunteer assistants, resulting in a program that serves many age groups in the community.
