GCCA Presents New Exhibition—Summer Salon: Makers

Featuring original handmade art and crafts by GCCA Artisan Members

Greene County Council on the Arts (GCCA) presents a new members-only exhibition, Summer Salon: Makers, featuring unique, handmade, and reasonably priced art and crafts made exclusively by GCCA artisan members. Inspired by a recent New York Times article, which described Catskill as a “mecca for artisans,” GCCA’s Summer Salon showcases the best of Catskill’s artisans. Summer Salon: Makers runs from June 3, 2017 through July 22, 2017. The public was invited to celebrate the beginning of summer and meet the artisans at the opening reception on Saturday, June 3rd at the GCCA Catskill Gallery, 398 Main Street, Catskill, NY.

Summer Salon: Makers offers a wide variety of art and crafts, including Noelle Adamoschek’s mosaic glass windows, Kathryn Hunter Luciana’s felt wall hangings, Chef Rob Handel’s famous Root Beer Syrup prepared with fifteen different roots, barks, herbs, and spices (each small batch is made by hand at Heather Ridge Farm in Preston Hollow, NY), and a Positive Energy Pump by Rodney Greenblat, artist and designer of the hit video game PaRappa the Rapper and proprietor of Catskill’s newest business on Main Street The Rodney Shop. To use the Positive Energy Pump one places their favorite small items in the drawer, anything with sentimental value. A quiet fan gently blows air up through a filter that may be filled with flower pedals or any fragrant material. The air then circulates through the items collecting the positive energy and re-circulating the good feelings out into the room.

Other items in the Summer Salon: Makers exhibit include clothing, instruments, jewelry, sculpture, prints and stationary. The Summer Salon offers a wonderful opportunity for local residents and out-of-towners to find unique handmade items that are both practical and gorgeous. Shop early and often—items are taken away as they are purchased and replaced with new work promptly.

The GCCA Catskill Gallery is located at 398 Main Street in Catskill, NY. Gallery hours are Monday through Fridayfrom 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. GCCA is closed on Sundays, and will be closed on Tuesday, July Fourth.
